Finding Family Roots in Germany
Sept. 24 - Oct. 22, 2002
Our branch of the Emmert family descended from Johann Phillip Emmert, who immigrated to America in 1730. For a long time we had not known where in Germany he came from. Last winter we discovered that he was born in Neckarelz, a village on the Neckar river about 50 km east of Heidelberg. So we (Pat and Ed Manning, and Nancy and Gil Emmert) decided to visit Germany together to see for ourselves what Neckarelz was like and to see if we could meet some of our German relatives. Pat made a preliminary trip in May and the four of us went in September. During Pat's initial visit she met Toni and Peter Zimmermann, who were very helpful in making contact with the Neckarelz Emmerts for our visit.
