Visiting with their Uncle Dan and Aunt Ashley
June 4 - 7, 2011

First stop was St. Louis so the grandkids could visit with their Uncle Dan and Aunt Ashley.

The kids spied a monopoly game in Uncle Dan's house and immediately talked him into playing it.

The next day we headed downtown to see the Gateway Arch and for Uncle Dan and Aunt Ashley to take the kids to a Cardinals ball game.

We took the gondola car to the top of the arch. This is a replica that we could use for photo ops. For the real gondola car they didn't want people to slow things down by taking pictures, so they hustled them along pretty fast.

Looking at the view from the top of the arch, 630 feet above the ground.

The view down on the Mississippi River and into Illinois.

The view on the St. Louis side. The old courthouse on the far right was where the Dred Scott decision was handed down in 1857. The stadium on the left is Busch Stadium where the boys will be heading to watch a major league ball game. The Cardinals beat the Cubs, 3-2 in 10 innings, so the gang was very happy with the outcome.

Awesome view! Alex appears to be scared out of mind, however (:-). Or maybe he is just being an immature 12-year-old and clowning around.

Back down on the ground, we could see that the Mississippi River was very high and on the verge of flooding the road along the river front.

A flooded pedestrian ramp along the river front.

Back at the house, the gang is making like a rock band, with the Wii providing the tempo.

Dan and Ashley's dog, Barkley, wearing the Bark Ranger scarf that Nancy bought for him in Mesa Verde. He doesn't seem impressed. Also, he seems to be rather camera shy; it took four people to hold him for this shot.

The next day Uncle Dan and Aunt Ashley took Alex and Zack to a Six Flags amusement park. They had a great time, but Alex didn't take any pictures, so we have nothing to add to this web page. Tomorrow we start heading west, towards the Grand Canyon.
