George
Harvey was a fisherman in the early 19th century who saved almost 200
people from certain death in two different shipwrecks. It is an
incredible story. The village of Isle aux Morts has developed a trail
along the shore with interpretive panels telling the story of George
Harvey. Below are the panels if you wish to read them; they tell the
story much better than I could.
The
mural showing George Harvery, his daughter Ann, and his dog Hairyman.
The boat is a full-size replica of the punt George used for the rescues.
Tomorrow we take the ferry from Port-aux-Basques back to Nova Scotia.
