Since
we had a couple of days before we could take the ferry to
Newfoundland, we went to Lunenberg, Nova Scotia, but were not
impressed. It was overrun with people because of the music festival
they were having, and the scenery was not impressive. So we headed to
Peggy's cove, which is just south of Halifax.
On
the way to Peggy's Cove, we passed through Sea Bright and found this
memorial to SwissAir Flight 111, an airline flight that went down in
the sea near here.
The inscription on the memorial.
Peggy's
Cove is a small, and very picturesque, fishing village. We are
not sure how it got the name, or who Peggy was, however.
Fishing "stuff' in Peggy's Cove.
A
close-up of a lobster trap. The trap has two compartments; one is
called the "kitchen", which is where they put the bait, and the other
is called the "bedroom". The lobster enters the kitchen to take the
bait, but goes into the bedroom in its attempt to exit the trap, and
gets caught.
This
lighthouse at Peggy's Cove is said to be one of the most photographed
lighthouses in Canada. Considering how many people were there taking
pictures of it, I can believe it. The lighthouse is also unique in
another way; it contains the village post office. Since we were there
on a Sunday, the post office was closed, so we couldn't see it.
Walking
back to our RVs we stopped to get some ice cream cones. This seagull
decided it wanted some ice cream too, so it swooped down and grabbed
the ice cream cone right out of Nancy's hand! Thanks to Pat for having
the presence of mind to grab this photo of the gull.
Tomorrow we drive to North Sydney to catch the ferry to Newfoundland.
