Quebec City
Aug. 8-9, 2012

Our next sightseeing was in Quebec. We found a parking lot near the marina and just north of the old City that allowed RVs to park 24 hours, so we could use it for dry camping. This is the view of Quebec from our parking spot.

One of the city gates. Quebec is the only walled city north of Mexico.

The Citadel is atop a hill in the old city and controlled traffic on the St. Lawrence after it was built by the British in the 1820s.

The Citadel also has a Changing of the Guard ceremony, which is smaller than, but similar to the ceremony in Ottawa.

The Changing of the Guard ceremony.

A novel feature of the Quebec ceremony is the goat mascot. After the ceremony we took a tour of the Citadel; our guide explained about the goat, "When the queen gives you a gift, you smile, say 'Thank you', and put it to use."

View of the old city, the docks, and the St. Lawrence from the Citadel. Dominating the skyline is the Chateau Frontenac, which is a classy old hotel.

The old city had its share of street performers galleries, and caricature artists.

A last look at the Citadel as we crossed the St. Lawrence to head further eastward on our journey to Newfoundland.
