Camping with Zack
July 4-7, 2005
We took Zack first for the camping trip. We headed for a state park on the Lake Huron shore.
Building, and destroying, sand castles at the beach was one of Zack's
favorite things to do. When we got to the beach, his eyes lit up and he
exclaimed, "I can't believe we are really at the beach! But this is not a dream;
it is real life!". For a four-year-old, he has an amazing vocabulary.
Camping in the motor home was a new experience for Zack, which required
careful investigation. Yes, Zack, all the doors have latches so they don't come
open while driving.
Zack snuggled into his bed.
After a "hard day" at the beach, he was soon fast asleep. Even the flash from
my camera didn't wake him.
Breakfast time with bagels and cream cheese.
The high slide was also a fun place to go.
Down he came; it was a fast trip to the sand pit at the bottom.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a favorite choice of Zack for lunch.
He is a real connoisseur of peanut butter and jelly and lets you know if the
sandwich is not made properly.
We also did some sightseeing in the area and stumbled across this lighthouse
at Pointe Aux Barques, at the tip of Michigan's "thumb". The lighthouse was
built in 1857 and is the second lighthouse at this site. It is still operational
today as a navigational aid to boats on Lake Huron.
Back at camp, I dug out a hammock for Zack to try out. It was great fun.
A campfire at night is an important part of camping.
Toasting marshmallows on the campfire is also a requirement.
Hmm, toasted marshmallows are good eating!
This brings Zack's camping trip to a close. Next we go camping with Alex.
