Shanghai - Days 2 and 3

We had two free days before heading for Nanjing for the orientation for our summer teaching. It gave us an opportunity to see more of Shanghai.  Judy joined us for the second free day and will go with us on the train to Nanjing on Monday.

The view from our hotel room on the 15th floor.

A shopping mall in Shanghai.

Another view of the Pudong area from the Bund; the last time we were here it was raining, so it was worth it to come back.

The Jinmao Tower and the new skyscraper that is to be taller when it is finished. The Aurora building put on impressive lighting displays at night.

The view from the observation deck on the Oriental Pearl tower. We are 263 meters (863 feet) above the ground.

The pedestrian zone along the Nanjing Road. It has a lot of shopping and seems to be an area where young people gather. It reminded me very much of the "Fussgangerzone" in Munich.

After dinner we headed for the Bund to take a boat ride on the river to see the lights on the buildings. Getting on the boat was really hectic, with crowds of people crushing together to get on to the boat. Once we found a place in the bow and the boat left dock, it was a very pleasant way to watch the changing views of Shanghai after dark.
