Heading for the Tetons
June 15, 2008
After a week in Salt Lake City, during which Nancy did genealogy
research at the Family History Library and I stayed in camp and did
fusion research, we left Salt Lake City and started north towards
Canada; our goal for today was Grand Teton National Park. We drove
northeast through Logan Canyon, which is a very scenic drive. A few
years ago we drove it in September when the aspen were starting to turn
yellow, but now it is more like spring time.
At the top of the canyon you come out on a magnificent view of Bear
Lake, which is 1600 feet below us in this view and straddles the
Utah-Idaho border. The lake is natural, being formed 450,000
years ago.
Further on we pass through the Snake River canyon south of Jackson, WY.
It is a pretty canyon with impressive views of the Snake River.
Whitewater rafting appears to be popular on the the Snake; we saw quite
a few rafts negotiating the rapids. Didn't see anyone go in, or
in serious trouble.
We arrived at Grand Teton National Park and found a campsite. Tomorrow
we will do some sightseeing in the park and put my new camera to work.
